World's First Underwater Restaurant
Ever wanted to eat fish amongst the fish, or watch a stingray swim past during dinner? If this sounds like your thing, travel to the Hilton Maldives Resort & Spa, where you can eat at Ithaa -- the world's first-ever undersea restaurant.
By the looks of it, you'll be dining in an inverse aquarium, 5 meters below the surface of the Indian Ocean, surrounded by the beautiful coral reef.
According to The West Virginia Blogger: "The cuisine is dedicated to the fine balance of western food items with a Maldivian flavor, the wine concept is equally exciting, offering diners the perfect opportunity to discover the wines of the prestigious Champagne house Louis Roederer."
As you might suspect, it's not cheap. Dinner will run you an average of $187 to $220. But for a once-of-a-lifetime dining experience, maybe it's worth it.

I think this will be a different experience. Not every day you can eat like that. I think i would go to Seaworld though. It is sort of far to travel just to eat at a restaurant like that oncew in lifetime experience or not.

Sharks at Seaworld is reasonably priced, excellent food and above the ground. The shark tank is magnificent...........

We live in Florida, close to Sea World. My kids love eating at Shark's. The kids have a blast each time we go.

Just sit next to your aquarium and pop some fish sticks in the micro.

I think it's creepy, like Red LObster: YOu see the lobster in the tank, and then it's on your plate. Let just hope this resturant isn't serving seafood. Creepy...

I like to try new things and this would definitely be an interesting experience for me. Although Sea World is great.

Well my first thought is having a fish tank in my home I can say that at any given time one fish will be going to the bathroom and you can see it hanging there so.....wouldn't that be the same with that? I don't think I would want to pay that kind of money to eat there and have a fish swim past with it's waste hanging there.
pattiefo5 Apr 17th 2007 9:26AM
Just sit next to your aquarium and pop some fish sticks in the micro-$1.98

Another place to try is the Coral Reef restaurant in Epcot Center. It's a great place to eat with underwater views of the "Living Seas" attraction. The fish swim right past your table.

Please correct me if I am wrong here, but wasn't Disney's The Sea restraunt in Disney World, one of the first establishments to serve food in an aquarium setting? I wish there was some accountability in editorial research, sadly there isn't.

My son builds restaurants and I just sent him this article and asked him if he would like to have an assignment like this one to build.

WOULD NOT EAT UNDER WATER, TOO MUCH FEAR THERE. NOT TO MENTION REDICULOUSLY COSTLY. NOT WORTH IT TO ME.
henry adler Apr 17th 2007 11:19AM
Not correct. Sea World in Florida has an underwater restaurant, with similar views, good food, and much more reasonable prices.
ahvolare Apr 17th 2007 10:36AM
cassie, you are so right and especially when the misspelling includes the topic.
Jackie Apr 17th 2007 10:37AM
I'd be too scared to eat there, but the article is actually correct. They are not the first UNDERWATER restuarant but they are the first to do it under an actual ocean, not in a false ocean setting. Still...the person that commented on the underwater earthquakes kind of hit home for me...I'd rather sit by my friend's tropical fish tank and eat pasta nice and safe and not with tons of metric water pressure over my head.
