Justin, Justin. So sad that the story makes you nauseous and enterprising at the same time. If your cat gives 'nothing in return', I'm sure there's a more loving home for your cat. You'll both be happier. There are many who would gladly adopt your cat, so start searching. Nobody's forcing the two of you to stay together. In most homes, cats own the humans and it's a small tradeoff for not having to walk them or bathe them. The love they give is immeasureable, provided one is observant and not comparing them to dogs. Yes, they're described as 'a pillow that eats', but when they give you love, it's special. Most cats can be trained to avoid scratching furniture with a scratching post and deterrent spray for your couch.
I realize that cat lovers are a different breed of human and nobody's condemning you for not being one. (Why did you get one in the first place?) Chalk it up to 'irreconcilable differences' and move on.
