Budget Train Deals in Europe

I'm not sure why it never occurred to me, but apparently there are deals to be had on European trains.

Sure, I know about rail passes, but I always assumed that the quoted price to travel between two destinations was the only price available. Most trains in Europe are managed by local governments and local governments usually don't go out of their way to offer up special deals.

Well, I was wrong. There are plenty of ways to score on train deals in Europe. Pay Less Than the Passenger Next to you is a handy article in Budget Travel which details a number of rail bargains and how to go about cashing them in. Most aren't all that easy to pin down but if you are able to do so, they will save you more than 50% in many cases. Not too bad!
