Screen Protectors

Damn it!

I bought a new digital camera last year and just ruined the screen. I had it in my pocket while I was hiking and the constant rubbing proved too much. It’s not ruined, but it sure ain’t new anymore.

It’s a little too late, but I just ran across a nice suggestion in Backpacker Magazine (March 2008) on how to avoid this. There are a variety of products out there to protect the screens of your cameras and PDAs but Backpacker recommends Shield Zone. Their invisibleSHIELD is made, according to their website, “from a unique material originally created for the military to protect the leading edges of helicopter blades.”

Whatever this miracle material is, it must be good because the company emphatically promises “that if your invisibleSHIELD ever gets scratched up, we’ll replace it. For FREE. For LIFE.”

Not too bad. Simple type into their website the name of the product you want protected (in my case a Canon S80) and see if it is among the 800 different shapes and sizes they carry. My camera was, and I sadly learned I could have saved my screen for a small $9.95 investment.

Damn it!
