The World's Best Clothing-Optional Resorts
Sometimes, the best vacations are those in which the traveler can let his or her down, unwind, and put it all away -- literally. If you're looking for a place to let it all hang out, then you might want to check out our list of some of the world's best clothing-optional resorts. In addition to being quite liberating, bear in mind (ha ha), that packing for these detinations should be very, very easy.
In case you're wondering, "clothing-optional" doesn't really mean you're still supposed to prance around in your your tighty-whities -- even if you DO look like these guys.
(Warning: Some of the websites listed are NSFW.)
- Catering specifically to couples, Palm Springs' Terra Cotta Inn is a beautiful, historic mid-century modern property. Originally built for celebrities, the complex boasts 17 large rooms, a poolside breakfast, and high walls -- to deter Peeping Toms.
- Pleasure Grove Resort is an adults-only resort in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains of Northeast Georgia, 1½ hours north of Atlanta. A full-service, four-season resort, "The Grove" is the perfect destination for couples to "get away from reality, indulge their senses, and realize their wildest fantasies." Unless, of course, those fantasies include wearing lots and lots of clothes.
- Jamaica's Hedonism II hosts annual couples' conventions that feature various events, including erotic costume contests that tend to the extreme. Is that a banana costume, or are you just happy to see me?
- Hidden Beach Resort Au Naturel Club was created for "uninhibited vacationing." The only only all-inclusive nudist resort in the Mexican Caribbean, Hidden Beach boasts 42 beach-front suites in Tulum, Quintana Roo.
- Located 90 minutes from LA, The Sea Mountain Spa was ranked the Top Celebrity Spa in the US by MSN (2003-2006), and awarded Best Private Retreat in the USA 4 years in a row. AOL declared it one of the top 5 places to be naked in the USA.
- From August to April, Cairns' The White Cockatoo operates as a nudist resort with a limited number of non-nude chalets available in a separate area. The Cockatoo (tee hee) promise that naturalists and non-naturalists will not accidentally bump into each other. After all, who wants to run into a clothed person?!
- If you are looking for luxury and sophistication, Portugal's Quinta de Horta...may not be for you. However, if you're looking for casual arts and crafts, an organic farm, and horseback riding -- all in the buff -- then you're in luck.
- Located on the Florida-Georgia line, along the banks of the St. Mary's River, the Hidden River Resort promotes "respect for our environment, ourselves and others while experiencing family and social nudism." At the 88-acre retreat, guests can go hiking, lounge by a cypress pond, or enjoy campfires with marshmallows. Watch out for flying embers!. Pets are welcome -- but they must also romp in the nude.
- Club Orient is a naturist resort situated on the mile-and-a-half-long Orient Beach on St Martin.
- Eden Bay Resort & Spa, in the Dominican Republic, is adjacent to the world-class Robert Trent Jones golf course. Careful with your club!

Geez, I personally prfer to keep fit, and would rather see other fit people, than fat people naked.
crazyppl Sep 23rd 2009 11:14AM
Sometimes people are "fat" as you like to say, because of existing medical issues. I myself have a medical issue that has prevented me from losing weight as much as I try and has caused me to gain weight over the last few years. I eat healthy and exercise, but I am still overweight (especially in the abdominal region). Does this mean I am ugly? Ofcourse not....my husband tells me I am beautiful, and I feel beautiful to myself. So, because some people are not blessed with the ability to have the hollywood ideal "thin" body, then we should shelter ourselves and not partake in the world? You people with these comments are so rude, and one day it will catch up to you. Goodluck.
wicabuss Mar 4th 2007 5:44AM
to webguy obviously your insecure about yourself, because calling other people names dont matter.and we all do what we want to your words are futile.

Shedidills, meet webguy. You both are missing the whole point lost in a time warp. Not worth further comment. I wish I had the time to tell you about the single attractive young woman who came to our nudist community to visit as a camper on Friday evening. I was on duty. She warned that if she was hit on even once she was out of there. On Sunday evening I saw her again and she told how she fell in love with Sunnier Palms in Fort Pierce, Fl. She told how she got the night back and felt safe among us as she walked through our nature preserve and swam in her glory. She couldn't get over the way everyone looked you in your eyes (only) as they talked. THIS is the point, boys. One last comment: I am so sick of silly articles about clothing optional and nudist resorts written as the one that prompted this discussion. I agree with those whose comments tell the real story.

Hey 'Shallow Hal'Web Guy,
You sound like a real keeper, a real 'Studley' kinda guy. Tall, 'Dark and Dudley', that's you. Try and
take that giant helmet off that empty melon you use to keep those huge ears apart, give that ego a rest, try reading a BOOK and forget peoples LOOKS.
It would be such a boring world if we all looked as great as you!
And, Magic8 you have such a way with words. Could of not said it any better to 'Shediwhatever'
Oh yea, I would like to ask any of you free and fun loving 'Sun Gods' and Goddesses if...
They have ever found 'Redrock' up in the Santa Ynez mountains above Santa Barbara? It is like you died and went to heaven with sunscreen on!
My girlfriend and I went down the coast of California camping about 1973. We often referred to our handy AAA travel guide when looking for places to camp. We read about Redrock and it sounded perfect. Perfect does not even come close! We arrived on a weekday and enjoyed a new swimming hole each one more beautiful than ever. Deep clear water each one surrounded with sandy beaches to kick back on and relax.
Each day we walked empty trails, in nothing but hiking boots, backpacks and hats. Our nakedness and nature...
Until Saturday morning came and much to our surprize, each swimming hole we came to were packed. Family groups, couples, you name it. It was just more fun with such a variety of folks. We then felt pretty silly, thinking that somewhere as wonderful as 'Redrock'would of been such a well kept secret!
It's been years since our skinny dipping adventure and those soooo red bottoms of ours. It was worth all the pealing and pain for memories and laughs never to be forgotten!
Thank God for sunsreen and fluffy beach towels!
Happy Trails and tanning..

I am a single atractive female and visit Hedo 11 every year. I am not a swinger but enjoy the freedom of no clothes and the entertainment in Jamaica. I meet with the same group of people and they all respect my wishes of not being a swinger. I have had many great times and have never laughed so much with my friends. I just wish there was more Single nudist places and not so many couples all inclusive places. I do not critisize people as every body is different. As long as they are happy within themselves and do not harrass or force other people, then so be it. Good for them. Hedo 11 is exactly this way. The word "No" is law and respected by everyone. People should not judge other people just because we go to these places.

I saw the listing for sea mountain inn
I would put it on top
its very safe uspcale and a nude resort that does not have single men on the property
I have been to 2 other places on this list too
toshi Mar 6th 2007 12:06PM
We do like some but feel that a nude resort should be more liberal and progressive again at the sea mountain inn they have 24 hour pools with the healing natural mineral waters and the only 24 dance lounge we have ever seen. The nude resort sea mountain inn is total romance too and yes its more sex vibe but the people are more upscale and real then other resorts- I began going as a single woman and found that i was treated with real respect-Now married I visit the sea mountain inn at least every couple of months the only thing like it is hedo or desire--this is smaller more intimate and MUCH more fun

Great to see that a travel site is promoting nudist resorts.
We have been to Terra Cotta 11 times. They are the best. They rightfully deserve the #1 ranking. They have great service, good prices, and very nice guests. They are the most relaxful resort we have ever been to, textile or nudist.
We have been to club O, desert shadows, caliente, paradise, hidden beach, eden bay, and braco. Each was only so-so and very overpriced. We would never go back to those places. Caliente was the worst.
We like Cypress Cove. We have been there 3 times. Costa Natura in Spain is very nice. We would go back there. We wouldn't go back to Cap D'Agde in France. Too many swingers.
I don't like it that they listed sleazy swinger resorts like sea mountain and pleasure grove. It gives people who aren't nudists the wrong idea.
If you have nevr been to a nudist resort before, you need to try it. It is the best way to vacation.

It seems there is a place for everyone? High price, low price, and everything in between! Caliente is beautiful and deserves the prices. Go anywhere, just ENJOY!!!

Right in Northern California, is Harbin Hot Springs, clothing optional healing resort. It looks hedonistic, because many guests and residents are beautiful, fit and fun-loving, but the New Age folks keep it sweet and clean. Where else can you sunbathe nude, and then wander into a garden for spiritual chanting, or into a temple for loving yoga. Great for singles, and couples. Natural hot springs mediation pools, yoga, gourmet organic restaurant, hiking, Euro style B&B rooms, or outdoor camping. 90 minutes from SF, and reasonably priced. Plus this is where Watsu was born, and is available 7 days a week, together with many other forms of (non-sexual) bodywork.

Being nude is not rude or offending.. Body acceptance.. One problem I do have with nude resorts. I am a guy. If a man gets an erection, he needs to hide it or be kicked out of the resort. That falls into the category body acceptance. Just because a man gets erect, DOES not mean he is horney, or thinking about sex.. I get them at times, and i feel so embarrassed to hide it. its a normal body function..That is one thing I do disagree on with nude resorts.. When i was a teenager,, before i started going to nude resorts,, when i got naked, weather it was at the lake in my neighborhood, or a pool, or my bathroom, or bedroom,, I stayed erect. even if i skinny dipped for 5 hours, it never went down.. No one seen me back then soft.. What happens behind closed doors in nude resorts is that persons business gay or stairght..I seen fat people, old people, young people, kids, teenagers, and no one cares what you look like. Yes the ladies do look at guys, and guys look at ladies,, not stareing, or dwelling. i caught girls, ladies looking at my privates. Its natural.
