The World's Best Clothing-Optional Resorts
Sometimes, the best vacations are those in which the traveler can let his or her down, unwind, and put it all away -- literally. If you're looking for a place to let it all hang out, then you might want to check out our list of some of the world's best clothing-optional resorts. In addition to being quite liberating, bear in mind (ha ha), that packing for these detinations should be very, very easy.
In case you're wondering, "clothing-optional" doesn't really mean you're still supposed to prance around in your your tighty-whities -- even if you DO look like these guys.
(Warning: Some of the websites listed are NSFW.)
- Catering specifically to couples, Palm Springs' Terra Cotta Inn is a beautiful, historic mid-century modern property. Originally built for celebrities, the complex boasts 17 large rooms, a poolside breakfast, and high walls -- to deter Peeping Toms.
- Pleasure Grove Resort is an adults-only resort in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains of Northeast Georgia, 1½ hours north of Atlanta. A full-service, four-season resort, "The Grove" is the perfect destination for couples to "get away from reality, indulge their senses, and realize their wildest fantasies." Unless, of course, those fantasies include wearing lots and lots of clothes.
- Jamaica's Hedonism II hosts annual couples' conventions that feature various events, including erotic costume contests that tend to the extreme. Is that a banana costume, or are you just happy to see me?
- Hidden Beach Resort Au Naturel Club was created for "uninhibited vacationing." The only only all-inclusive nudist resort in the Mexican Caribbean, Hidden Beach boasts 42 beach-front suites in Tulum, Quintana Roo.
- Located 90 minutes from LA, The Sea Mountain Spa was ranked the Top Celebrity Spa in the US by MSN (2003-2006), and awarded Best Private Retreat in the USA 4 years in a row. AOL declared it one of the top 5 places to be naked in the USA.
- From August to April, Cairns' The White Cockatoo operates as a nudist resort with a limited number of non-nude chalets available in a separate area. The Cockatoo (tee hee) promise that naturalists and non-naturalists will not accidentally bump into each other. After all, who wants to run into a clothed person?!
- If you are looking for luxury and sophistication, Portugal's Quinta de Horta...may not be for you. However, if you're looking for casual arts and crafts, an organic farm, and horseback riding -- all in the buff -- then you're in luck.
- Located on the Florida-Georgia line, along the banks of the St. Mary's River, the Hidden River Resort promotes "respect for our environment, ourselves and others while experiencing family and social nudism." At the 88-acre retreat, guests can go hiking, lounge by a cypress pond, or enjoy campfires with marshmallows. Watch out for flying embers!. Pets are welcome -- but they must also romp in the nude.
- Club Orient is a naturist resort situated on the mile-and-a-half-long Orient Beach on St Martin.
- Eden Bay Resort & Spa, in the Dominican Republic, is adjacent to the world-class Robert Trent Jones golf course. Careful with your club!

These places are just swingers resorts. Most of the people are so ugly and fat, it is a freak show to watch!

Interesting that none of the great nudest resorts in our own back yard were the choices written of in this article.
We have Paradise lakes in Lutz. Cypress Cove in Kissimmee. Caliente in Tampa. Gulf Coast in Hudson. My personal favorite is Cypress Cove for the best dollar value.

We've lived at SunsportGardens.com in South Fl for seven years now and we love it. (best decision we've ever made!)
Come & visit...we're in Lot #2 :)

There is a huge difference between nudist resorts, swingers resorts and family nudist resorts. We have been to Hidden Beach and it is nudist and amazing service and atmosphere. We have been to HedoII and it is nudist and clothed and swingers mixed and can be more lively environment but with not as good service or atmosphere--but still fun. There are some resorts that cater to swingers, but just because someone enjoys sunning nude does not mean they are swingers. Quite the contrary in fact, at nudist resorts it is made very clear that public displays are not tolerated. I highly recommend Hidden Beach for relaxation and fun as a couple.

They left off possibly the best clothesfree resort anywhere, but it IS nudist and not clothing optional - the Desert Shadows Inn in Palm Springs, CA. They have 3 pools, 3 spas and hundreds of rooms.
I'm too lazy to research but I think resort #5, and possibly #'s 9, and 10 are no longer open.

where have you guys been. Calient Resort and spa in land o lakes florida should be at the top of your list. good old pasco county has more nudist resorts than anywhere in florida. caliente resort also owns eden bay. come to florida for more sun and fun then you could imagine.

to webguy, march 3. don't you wish!!! obviously you are not comfortable with YOUR nudity or you would know the difference between being nude and having sex. i enjoy myself the way i was born and i don't believe i was born having sex and swinging!
John Mar 3rd 2007 10:16PM
I don't understand why people are so silly about nudism. Even the writer of this article had to throw in several puns and jokes in the write up. I say-"if we were meant to go around naked, we would have been born that way." And it's unfortunate that people like webguy (Mar 3 posting) make incorrect and narrow minded comments about nudism, and the resorts listed here. I've been to more than one of these resorts mentioned, and they are simply nudist resorts. If swingers do go there. they do whatever they want to do behind closed doors. Nudism and Naturism is about body acceptance, joy and freedom. Come on people, this is the 21st Century. Try evolving (even a little) in your acceptance of yourself and others.

I have been a Naturist since 1962. It is very relaxing. I would recommend the lifestyle to anyone.

My husband and I have been to a few clothing optional resorts and I find the swingers comments offending. I am a good person (I'm even a Sunday school teacher), and we do NOT swing or partake in any unacceptable behavior. We have seen some things we don't want to be a part of at certain resorts, and probably will not visit those resorts again. But places like Hidden Beach in Mexico and Grand Lido Braco in Jamaica are fabulous, classy, and wonderful places to relax and feel pampered. The way a vacation should feel! Except we come home with NO TAN LINES! That's it! It's that simple. And we always meet the nicest, most wonderful people that we end up being friends with. If you're looking for a swinging atmosphere, you can go just about anywhere........even with clothes on! (Vegas, Mardis Gras, etc.) We are not looking for that. We simply enjoy basking in the sun nude without getting propositioned or arrested.

PS = Regarding the comment about most people being ugly and fat, that is not true! Any vacation you run into all sorts of people. Some days there may be more fat people than thin ones, more dark skinned than light, etc. I've seen all kinds of people at these resorts and they don't care because they are not there for a fashion show or to get hit on normally if they're at a couple's resort. I am thin and tall and have done modeling, so I don't think I would quite qualify for ugly and fat. I appreciate the heavy set people there who are comfortable enough with themselves to be that outgoing. And I respect the beautiful bodied people that can look as great as they do but not act as if they're better than anyone else!

My partner and I have been to several of the resorts mentioned. We are both gay men and not fat and not ugly. We both spend a great deal of time at our gym to stay in shape. We are there to have a good time and are not there to hit on the other men, straight or gay. We both work hard and love relaxing in the nude. I am a urologist and look at naked men all day long and seeing another one does not impress me. I have made many long term friendships with people considered fat and not attractive. Many people flatter themselves by thinking that someone is interested in their naked body. Too many people in the U.S are too up-tight about nudity. In most cases it is not the others that they should be concerned about. They need to examine the charged feelings that they are having that contribute to their uncomfortable feelings. In many cases the people voicing concerns about the "swinging" incidents really do not need to worry because they are not going to be asked to participate. If swinging incidents do happen, one can always say no. I have not seen orgies occuring in public places. I know that they may happen but I have never been involved in one. If I want to get involved in swinging, I can do that at home and save myself the money that I am spending. Nudity is a natural, wonderful and freeing experience.
Callie Mar 5th 2007 2:16PM
They have to have "couples" resorts or there is going to be too high of a ratio of men (some of the creepy variety)to women. I would like to see an all female resort.
D.Richardson Mar 4th 2007 3:27AM
How about cleaning up your act shedidills? No one wants to hear your lude comments.
Magic 8ball Mar 4th 2007 3:45AM
Shedidills, if you have to ask the answer for you is unlikely
webguy Mar 4th 2007 4:15AM
Geez, I personally prfer to keep fit, and would rather see other fit people, than fat people naked.
crazyppl Sep 23rd 2009 11:14AM
Sometimes people are "fat" as you like to say, because of existing medical issues. I myself have a medical issue that has prevented me from losing weight as much as I try and has caused me to gain weight over the last few years. I eat healthy and exercise, but I am still overweight (especially in the abdominal region). Does this mean I am ugly? Ofcourse not....my husband tells me I am beautiful, and I feel beautiful to myself. So, because some people are not blessed with the ability to have the hollywood ideal "thin" body, then we should shelter ourselves and not partake in the world? You people with these comments are so rude, and one day it will catch up to you. Goodluck.
