Off the Beaten Path: Making Out in Italy
Those 30-year-old Italian bachelors who still live with their parents--and hence lack the indoor space to make out--are saved. The town of Bari, Italy, opened a park where couples can have sex freely (but not for free). All they have to do is pay a $4 admission and $2 for every half hour they stay.
It's not unusual for Italians to live with their parents until they are in their late twenties, even thirties. In fact, this study says that 8 out of 10 Italian men aged between 18 and 30 live with their folks.
My friend who lives in Spain says that many Spanish young adults do the same thing because they a) cannot afford to rent/buy their own place and b) don't want to give up mom's cooking. Many of them use their cars for romantic escapades since they can't really bring their girlfriends home. Apparently, visiting parking lots after 10pm can be pretty entertaining...

You know... Heidi you're the one who needs profesional help by thinking that your god doesn't want consenting adults to have sex. But I'll avoid making that any bigger an arguement than it already has been made.
It makes me sick how many adults in the states are afraid of sexual acts. Everyone is afraid of admitting to more than vanilla sex. Hell I would love for one of these to open up around me, when I was a bit younger I would have sex in public places all the time.
The chance of being seen excites a lot of people and is a lot of fun. And to the one who said that people who are voyars would ruin the idea...you're niave. What makes it such an exiciting time is being secure enough in yourself to not give a damn who is watching. I mean sure there is the feel of fresh air...the sun shine ( I personally like the moon shine better but eh) ... but really this type of thing is for exhibitionists and voyars.
I say yay for Italy for not being so damn sexually insecure.
And I completely agree that cultures that have to repress their sexual urges tend to be more violent.

I am all for this actually, Many people here in the states would like to be able to have sex outside and in public without getting slapped with an indecent exposure charge. I can't say that I am that adventurous myself however for those that are I think these should be around for that, Alas the many things that the U.S is progressive and open minded is not one of them.

Oh and I forgot to mention I am a Christian and to the people who had religious arguments against this. I hate to say it but Sex is a natural part of God's plan. Do you think Adam and Eve only had sex indoors. No they did it outdoors and had a great time. So why can we not enjoy the same thing. Sex was created by God for man to enjoy.

ahh, those days of youth, lots of fond memories of parks, might have to visit again, its got that exotic feel, like beach mountaintop. In the us parks are free, NO?

Right on, Aaron! I know more individuals agree with you than will admit. Hedonistic expression is appreciated by so many of us on a voyuer level in our homes, on our televisions, computers, and in magazines. So, those of you who oppose these parks are prudes or are you just afraid to get caught watching and enjoying it? Negative social conditioning towards sex and sexuality creates feelings of shame in regards to voyuerism and exibitionism. Why not create an environment where we can freely enjoy both?

This Italian story reminded me of the following:
Prior to the events of Tiannamen [sp?] Square [1989?], I ran across a short news snippet "somewhere" (either small town local paper or Time magazine). I've always wondered if it was just a jab at the Communist government of China, or if this really occurred. According to the "news brief," young Chinese couples were openly having sex in public parks to protest the lack of privacy at home. Because of a shortage of housing in the larger cities, married couples were forced to share their lodgings with their parents and other relatives. Lacking even the luxury of a private marital bedroom, they resorted to having sex in public.
Does anyone else remember this? If it's true, I wonder if it was one of the factors leading up to the Tiannamen Protests?

hot damn! I'm moving to italy. :) This is the greatest thing since... sex. I just hope that it is somehow cordoned off for the kiddies. Is there an age limit? That would be pretty damn nasty to be having sex and look over and see one of your kids doing it next to you.

This is so sad and sick, a herald of The Death of the West. No culture that ever progressed out of the Stone Age has treated sex like animals do. The West will not survive, if this perversion of public sex becomes the norm.

Aaron, I couldn't agree with you more. American society is so amazingly screwed up about sexuality that it's not even funny. We're obsessed with "plastic" appearances, sex is used everywhere to promote nearly everything...yet, sexual education for children is all but prohibited. We have the highest teen pregnancy rate in the civilized world, but teen access to information, contraception and abortion is restricted. Even our former Surgeon General was fired for promoting masturbation as a helpful solution to teen sexuality! In the movie industry, violence merely gets a PG or R rating...but sex always has an X rating. Many people in this country would rather their children see violence than sex! No one ever teaches us anything about learning how to have pleasurable sex, sexual techniques, and the like...we have to spend our lives seeking that education elsewhere.
The problem is, there are too many repressed prudes and Fundies in this country for it to go a more liberal direction at this time. Sooner or later, though, it will happen...people will take a more enlightened view of sexuality, and future generations will be amazed at the current "backward-ness" of our culture.

You'll see that the United States will not have naked sex in public parks. We don't need any more perverts in this world...WE have too many already! What's the point of having sex in front of others?...Sex is a PRIVATE duty you do at HOME, and that's all! Yeah, we like to mix it up and go and do it out in our car somewhere, but it's usually dark out right? Why let Satan suck you into the lies and deceitfulness of sex? It's like saying it's ok to catch STDs, and it's ok for rapist that can't get sex to go and proceed with some unwilling woman! You're all falling into fatuation that will NEVER be reality! Get over it! Nude parks for sex will NEVER happen in the U.S....NOT IN MY LIFETIME!

I must say I’m very disappointed by the lack of response to this article. Further proof of most peoples fear of the prudes. Karen I don’t think I saw but if I did it was hot. Rebekah Dementia the moonshine is most definitely better after all it is usually 180 proof. Bella some of us are up for almost anything, that goes for BOP as well. AJ thanks for pointing out what the thumpers would have known if they bothered to read even a portion of the bible. Lisa I agree with you as well. It is sad that movies like Kill Bill are rated R and movies like Orgazmo and Brown Bunny have to fight the FCC. What’s even more pathetic is that male nudity requires a higher rating than female nudity. We need a president who isnt a puppet that will push for electric cars and FUN PARKS.
