Alaska’s Polar Bear Swim (Real Men Only)

It’s time to get your cold on.

January 19th kicks off the 21st annual Seward Polar Bear Jump in Seward, Alaska.

Of course there are many other Polar Bear swims throughout the world in which crazy loons jump into very cold water, but these are for little girlie men. Alaska is where real men take on the frigid cold of a mid-January jump into the ocean.

Those that survive such a challenge are helping a good cause: the American Cancer Society. Those that don’t, fail miserably in a Darwinian sort of way.

Fortunately, attendees not interested in taking the plunge can partake in a number of other activities such as a bachelor/bachelorette auction, oyster slurping, and turkey bowling.

Wow. Who says there’s nothing to do in Alaska in the wintertime?
