Vegas Food Orgy

If I found out I was going to die in three weeks, I’d take my credit card to Las Vegas and simply spend the time gorging myself at high-end restaurants.

Other than the dying part, this was sort of the assignment for Phil Vettel of the Chicago Tribune.

The Tribune’s restaurant critic had a $3,000 budget to blow in four days of eating, eating, eating in Vegas. He naturally opted for only the very best and had no problems spending the money, dropping two-thirds of it in two restaurants alone.

His largest bill, with tax and tip included was $1,212 for two people at Joel Robuchon at the Mansion in the MGM Grand. Wow. His 16-course degustation meal included such highlights as “truffled langoustine ravioli,” “coffee-scented potato puree topped by silken sea urchin,” and a handful of other tasty sounding items that I have no idea what the hell they are.

Vettel goes on to have equally orgiastic culinary experiences at Guy Savoy in Caesars Palace ($735 for two) and L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon at MGM Grand ($123 for one).

Out of consideration for those of us without spending accounts or a terminal illness, Vettel also includes a list 15 other tasty Vegas restaurants that are a little more affordable for the masses.
