British Suggestions for Cheap American Travel

Traveling on the cheap has always been a passion of mine. Every time I travel abroad I try to take advantage of all the great deals I can dig up so that I can stretch my travel dollars.

It therefore shouldn’t come as a great surprise that when tourists travel to my own country they have the same plan in mind.

I always find it interesting to see what tricks foreign tourists have learned to sneak by inexpensively while traveling through the USA. A recent article in The Times (UK) by Rachael Jolley, a university student in England, gives some insight, and some fantastic recommendations on how she stretched her travel dollars while traveling America.

One of her best suggestions was opting to rent vacation homes instead of staying in expensive hotels. She also learned about the wonders of AAA membership and the genius of Skype for free calls back home. Most importantly, she learned about the infamous huge American portions. “Always order the smallest portion on the dinner menu and share it,” she writes. “There’s always enough for two.”
