Photo of the Day (12/2/06)

It's hard to tell why this Senegalese man wears such an intense expression or where he is headed, but he looks as though he has seen many things in his lifetime; both good and bad. I'd like to hope that he was having a good day at the time cfarivar snapped this shot, but who knows? Did he share any conversation with the photographer? If you're reading cfarivar, I'd sure like to know any extra details.

Hey guys,
Thanks for printing my photo! This is one of my favorite all-time photographs that I've ever taken, but it was taken completely effortlessly. By that I mean, when I was in Senegal, as a non-African I stand out pretty easily -- with a camera in front of my face I stand out more. So when I shoot, I try as often as I can to be as discreet as possible. This shot was actually taken by vaguely aiming the lens at the subject after taking it quickly out of my bag, snapping the shutter, and then returning it to my bag. I only realized what a great photo it was after I checked it later. (Did you guys get my application that I sent in?)
