Smoke-Free Hotel Rooms
There are few things in life more disgusting than the rancid smell of someone else's cigarette smoke entrenched deep within the curtains, carpets, and bedding of a hotel room. Gag!
No offense to you smokers out there, but your stink remains long after you've checked out. Even non-smoking rooms tend to be similarly soiled; smoke, after all, floats around and settles where it pleases.
That's why I was excited to learn that one hotel chain is doing something about it. Westin Hotels & Resorts have now banned smoking entirely within their establishments. In doing so, they had to throw away all the bedding and drapes -- the lungs of the smoking rooms -- and thoroughly de-stench entire hotels.
I don't know about you, but Westin has now won my business. And now Marriott is following in their footsteps. Thank you!

Smoking may leave a room not smelling appropriate, but there are products out there that relieve this problem.....All this promotion against smoker's, is gotten out of control....What happen to the rights of people....those that choose to smoke and those that don't....there are was to accomadate both sides...Why are we allowing different companies to take away rights that we may not agree upon, but still belong to those that do....

I smoked for 15 years and still do; but I admit the hotel rooms are awful smelling even after I would smoke and come back. When away you are to enjoy outside so if you smoke it should be no big deal to walk outside. I agree and both these hotel have had my business and will for sure keep my business now.

Good move, the american public will love you for being so brave. I for one will stay at a smoke free hotel/motel first.
Debbie Pomposelli Oct 27th 2006 6:23AM
I agree - that's great! I think ALL you non-smokers should have your own hotels and leave us smokers have our own hotels. I don't have a problem with that. But I wonder what you'd complain about. Puhhhh leaasseee.......2nd hand smoke in your drapes in your non-smoking rooms?????
My favorite is the old "I prefer non-smoking, but I'll take first available" seating in restaurants! I guess when you're hungry, second hand smoke isn't all that bad!
Betty Oct 27th 2006 6:23AM
Marriott hotels are already smoke free.

I bet they allow guns in these Hotels. When do we get laws against gun owners?? The real killers! I personally won't stay at these Hotels anymore.

I smoked many, many years ago, but, don't now. I look at smoking this way, so long as it's not blown in my face, let smokers smoke. Why don't we go after all the liquor drinkers, drunk drivers kill as many each year as smokers, so, don't give me this stuff about second hand smoke.
Melinda Oct 27th 2006 6:34AM
Thank god! There's nothing worse than going to stay at a hotel with my children and everything reaks of old smoke!
Dana Oct 27th 2006 6:35AM
While they are at it, why don't they ban alcohol also.
I mean what the heck if they are trying to get rid of the dangerous habits of others, let's include another killer to the list to be fair about it.

Smoking is the most selfish thing .......EVER. Debbie, you should be ashamed of your comments. Obviously, you don't think you have a chemical addiction.......but one day you will learn to accept the proven truth.
Angel Oct 27th 2006 6:41AM
So, instead of inhaling we can inhale the 1500+ UNTESTED chemicals in fragrances such as febreeze, Glade Plug In, Armoatherapy, Lysol etc.
The public is not made aware that the fragrances we spray are made of the same chemcials in second hand smoke, only more *pleasant smelling*.
KATE Oct 27th 2006 6:43AM
I do not believe that the second hand smoke in drapes can kill you, however it really can turn your stomach, thanks to these hotels for giving us better smelling hotel rooms...the smell of old smoke is the worst. I quite smoking because I could not stand the way my house, car and clothes smelled. They have my business!

I do smoke and have the right to do so. I never stay in a non-smoking room when vacationing and feel I should be able to smoke in a designated room if I care to. I pay for the room the same as any non-smoker does. Thank Goodness there are still plenty of great hotels and resorts that want customers to be happy and comfortable. I won't miss Westin or Marriott at all. Smokers do have rights too!
Julie Oct 27th 2006 6:45AM
Smoker's will never get it. Once one person lights up in a restaurant, the entire place becomes smoking because the smoke is circulated by the ventilation system. I hope all smokers ban these hotels because the residue is on your body, hair, and clothes and you will still stink up any furniture you sit or sleep on. You're nose is so compromised by all of your smoking that you can't tell how madly you or your clothes really smell. And stop hanging around the entrance to buildings.

This is not a good thing, smokers have rights too.

Human-Nights:
I have suffered all my 61 years from secondary smoke. My life had to be circled away from smokers, drove me in to being a longer. Ever kiss a ask tray, try it.
As a business travel with 90% in motels, life has been a challenge with remains of smokers. Smoking is the most ignorant habit. Smokers are just ignorant people, have no feelings when hearing a smoker has died of CANCER!!!! There should be a federal ban on smoking in all buildings.

Why are the smokers complaining about one or two non-smoking hotels? There are many that they can still go to. I have had lung cancer from second hand smoke. My lung has been removed and I had a 15% survival rate. So, there are two smoke free hotels now out of how many over all? Thank you for allowing me my rights.

I smoked for 30 years before I had sense enough to quit. I always smoked outside regardless of where I was and never smoked in my car. Until recently I never realized how the stench follows you and permeates everything even with those precautions. I welcome this idea and will use my points more often at these chains.
