T&L: Fifty Best Travel Resorts
While summer has long since wound down and the cold is swooping in like the Wicked Witch of the West (or perhaps like Charles Nelson Reilly, should anyone be a Lidsville fan out there), there are still lots of opportunities to get in a warm and relaxing vacation. And here's an idea: why not take the whole family along. Yes, herd together the kids and head over to Kayak.com or some such place where you can find the cheapest fare ,and then take a look at this article over at Travel and Leisure Magazine, which offers the editor's opinions on the 50 best resorts where you can haul the loved ones on your next vacation. This page provides the top ten, starting with Florida's Water Cooler Inn (never mind the odd-sounding name), which offers 60 gulf-front rooms (and two bikes per room!), five top notch restaurants, five pools, and five tennis courts. If all that is not enough to keep your kids busy well, then we suggest Ritalin. The site then allows you to choose your "best of" location based on region ,including Hawaii (ah, to be in Hawaii right now!), the East and Southeast, Florida, the West, and Canada. Traveling with the litluns' can be hard enough, it's nice to have a little bit of help to get you started.Filed under: North America, United States, Hotels and Accommodations

The trouble with T+L lists is that they only devote a scant 50 words or so to telling you about each resort. Not nearly enough info for a family to go ahead and drop $5,000 (or more, if you go by that list, which skews high-end). I prefer a more "warts and all" approach that doesn't sound like it was lifted from the hotel's brochure. Check out www.wejustgotback.com. The reviews are very detailed and "tell it like it is", right down to the hidden charges and disappointing little surprises. They are written by parents, so they focus on the elements parents need to know. Nice to have no surprises when you take the little ones away.... Plus there are really good tips from readers in the "Tip Sheets" section.
