Tel Aviv Still Okay to Visit
Despite the reassuring sound of this Washington Post piece, I doubt many people will be booking flights into Tel Aviv. While Israel's northerners trapped in the grizzly realities of war between their country and Lebanon's Hizbollah may head down for a nice relaxing time on the beach to escape the daily rocket attacks, for foreigners it would still fall too close for comfort. According to the article business has been great in Tel Aviv and the entertainment and commercial capital of Israel continues to thrive during the dispute. Tel Aviv is located 130 miles (220 km) from Lebanon and hasn't been struck by missiles since the Gulf War in 1991. The city houses some 235 public bomb shelters that have recently been prepared with equipment, stretchers, and water. Israel's on my list and most certainly Tel Aviv, but I'd wait this one out.

While I really do not want to join the political side discussion going on, please do not forget who started this current war! Hizbulla crossed the internation border, which was set and approved by the UN in 2001 and kidnapped two Israeli soldiers and killed three others. Had this not happened no Lebanese or Israeli children or others would be hurting now.
While nobody wants to kill innocent civilians, the world cannot expect a third of a country to be bomb shelters for a month due to constant rocket bombardments from Hizballa, which is funded by Iran.
One more fact to note: while the Israeli army makes mistakes at times and hits civilians, Israel never tried to hit innocent civilians. On the other hand, Israel's enemies blow up restaurants, buses, malls and pubs specifically targeting civilian men, women and children. In the current war with Lebanon, cities all of northern Israel have sustained casualties, and once again, these are innocent civilians who are being targeted.
If you would like to read very rounded information about Israel, visit www.haaretz.com This newsite is considered center-left politically and has 24/7 up-to-date information about what is really going on here (and no, I don't work for them).

To Mary Lou Michelin,
Israeli people are kind and peaceful. They have the right to live peacefully like you and me. They also have the right to defend their homes and families just as American soldiers do for us. You have the previlage to sit here in front of your computer while American sodiers are fighting for your safety. It is a sad war, just like all wars. It is especially sad when innocent people die because Hezbollah is using them as human shields.Israel takes all measures to let those who arwe innocent leave their homes before bombing.Israel is only as guilty as the USA is. If defending their country is a crime, then you are just as guilty!

Its actually a Hookah -- racist comments like that never win an argument nor add to an intelligent discussion -- just shows the ugly side of racism that's all

yeah its my country....and you are NOT ENTITLED TO ANY PART OF IT...AND NO...WE CANT LIVE ANYWHERE WE WANT....we want our homeland....you dont belong...save your zionist rhetoric for people who care...all it does is make me hate you more. as far as "israel's" right to exist....go back to your ancestral homeland THE REAL DESERT. Palestine was never a desert, you liar. It is right on the mediterranean sea...prime ocean-front property...THATS WHY YOU STOLE IT IN THE FIRST PLACE.
I suggest, in the interest of fair play, that you return to your homeland of the past 2000 years EUROPE. oh..thats right...no one wants you there either. i wonder why.

For Samia Daoudi:
I realize that it is pointless arguing historical fact with you. When you state, "...Palestine, the 6,000 year old homeland of MY PEOPLE..." you are clearly not interested in an honest discussion that will lead to a future for your Palestinian brethren. When you hurl insults at GOD as the "real estate god" you display for the entire world how much hatred you have been taught and how you continue to perpetuate this hatred.
Palestinians, such as yourself, who are only interested in the destruction of Israel will continue along a path of futility. Perhaps future generations of Palestinians will come to know the beauty of co-existence and find peace in your collective hearts.
