Los Angeles: Free Entertainment

Just a day after we posted about the cheapest venue in Los Angeles for quality music, the Hollywood Bowl, the LA Times came out with a whole section on free and very cheap entertainment opportunities in and around the city. Of course, they included the Hollywood Bowl, and how can you not when seats can be had for as little as one dollar?

The article thoughtfully breaks out a large selection of “low-budget entertainment options” by categories that include theater, concerts, clubs, movies, sports, museums, and online.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Twilight Dance Series
Live music on the Santa Monica Pier Thursday nights. This summer’s highlights: Dick Dale and Poncho Sanchez.

Gettty Center
Free admission, but $7 parking

Hollywood & Highland Center
Wine & Jazz on Tuesday nights. The jazz is free, the wine ain’t.

MOCA After Dark
Saturday nights at MOCA feature “extended hours, gallery tours, DJs, art workshops, readings and music until midnight.” Only $8

Check out the article for more suggestions and make your visit to LA a cheap one indeed.
