I went to Deadwood in June 2005 and had a great time. I am a big fan of the show too. The history of the town is great to learn while there. We actually stayed in the Bullock Hotel while we were there. It is build on the same piece of land as the hardware store.
You also cannot forget that Mount Rushmore is only about 1 hour away. The Crazy Horse Monument and Devils Tower (remember from Close Encounters) is also close by.
All in all a great trip if you are at all interested in the show.
By the way Deadwood is in South Dakota not Wyoming.
