US's Most Sweaty Cities
OK, it's a kinda lame marketing gimmick...but you gotta admit it's pretty clever, too. Old Spice, the company/brand famous for those old after shave commercials, but who has now branched more successfully into deodorant, launched a ranking for the United States most sweaty city. Now they haven't gone so far as to say the smelliest city, but that's implied, eh? Anyhow, as you'd expect, the sweatiest cities are those beset by high levels of heat and humidity. But wait, the number one ranking this year went to Phoenix, which is a relatively dry city, no? Doesn't make sense. But the Old Spice folks say that the average resident there loses nearly 0.9 liters per hour during a typical summer day. But the stuff leaves the body more quickly than, say Orlando, which ranked 13th. So I guess the distinction is one between quantity of sweat and overall sweatiness. Because Orlando and even New York would get damn high ranks otherwise. Filed under: Business, Festivals and Events

Perhaps the contest should be for the most dehydrating city. You can die of thirst very quickly if the temperature is 110 degrees F. Its hard to carry enough water with you if you're going the be outside for an extended period.

I recently visited Key West Florida for a wedding and was there for five days. During that time there was not one day or night that I wasn't totally wet from the humidity. I would have to vote for Key West as the sweatiest City.

I live in New Jersey, where it is said that if you can stand the weather here, you can live anywhere in the world. Our temperatures get into the high 90's and occasionally breaks 100. Our percent of humidity often matches our temperatures, so if you want to talk hot and sticky... I think we've got it covered.
I agree about how the humidity makes all the difference in how hot you feel. I was in Arizona in October '05 (but I have also been there in May and in July). I have experienced 116 degrees there that felt more comfortable than 90 degrees here, so yes, humidity is a major factor.

I think this is funny because it is all a diference of opinion. And do people realize that they are basically arguing over which city has the most smelly people? Is that really something to brag about?

I live in Elmira NY. In the spring and fall the weather here is very comfortable. Often sunny and 70's with a light breeze. Some really hot days in the 90's and that is uncomfortable. I like the change of seasons, but prefer spring and fall.

I am in Phoenix, and I have lived in Monroe, LA... Jackson, MS... Rogers, AR.... Boston, MA... New York, NY... San Diego, CA... and Orlando, FL... Yes, all of these places are humid as all, and yes it does make you sweat, but not nearly as much as pure heat... Humidity gives the impression your sweating alot more than you actually are. Why is that? Because there is water in the air! Thats what humidity is! it sticks to you while your sweating, which gives the impression your sweating more than you are. I worked on the ramp at sky harbor. You do sweat a lot more here than you do other places, but you do dry it off quicker because it is 115 or so... there is some common fact for you. For those who are on here taking everything way too personal and getting defensive about it, remember one thing... IT IS AN ADVERTISMENT! I have never seen more people fight over advertisements in my life! whats next? Begging for telemarketing calls? No pun intended... but you all need to "CHILL"

I live used to live in Davenport IA now Dubuque IA. It is hot as heck in the summer and cold in the winter. The humidity in the north in summer can really get to you. I've never been to the west. though the humidity in Iowa can get bad. I know a good website which says the humidity in Minnesota and Alaska can get bad too.

You guys are all After living in Las Vegas for over 40 years, with no humidity, and never breaking a sweat, how can you say it's #2? Then I moved to oklahoma City {noy listed} and break a sweat just getting out of the shower, trying to dry off.

I think the hottest place I've ever been is Bastrop, Louisiana in August. You just drip with sweat all day and night. Even if you take a cool bath you get out and still feel like you are in the tub, If you're wise you'll never go there in Augusr.

I have lived in Phoenix most of my life and I have also lived in Savannah, Ga. Everybody warned me about the horrible humidity in Ga..I" you'll hate it, its sooo humid". I hardly broke a sweat when I was there! Yet every summer I am reminded just how hot it is in Phoenix. The minute I walk outside im sweating. I guess it just depends on your body :P.

About St. Louis, Missouri.
In July, you know you're in Missouri when....
The birds use potholders to pull the worms out of ground.
The trees are whistling for the dogs.
Hot water now comes out of both taps.
A seat belt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron.
The temperature drops below 95 and you feel a little chilly.
You discover that you can get sunburned through your car window.
Potatoes cook underground, all you have to do is pull one out and add salt & pepper.
Farmers feed their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying hardboiled eggs.
Good old Missouri, home.

Arizona? Pennsylvania? Please! You people don't even know the meaning of sweat. Come spend a day or two here in any city in Southern Louisiana (Lake Charles, Lafayette, Baton Rouge and the sweatiest of all New Orleans.) If the sweat doesn't run you back home, the gnats that have generated from Ka-Rita (Katrina and Rita) that are attracted to your sweaty azz will!
