Tempo in Trinidad
Truth be told, as eager as I am
to soak up all the sun has to offer the Eastern Caribbean I'm also wanting to lounge on my friend's couch, kick back and
channel surf the airwaves on Trini television. I can't be alone when I say this, but it's kind of cool seeing what the
commercials and programming are like overseas. With it only being the Caribbean and not China I know there are a lot of
U.S. shows that filter their way in, but I'm talking about pure local content. One of the networks I've had my eye on
for awhile is none other than MTV and specifically Tempo. For those that don't follow MTV at home, on the international scene or at all, Tempo is a new network catering to all things pan-Caribbean and prides itself in being the first to do so. Channel coverage is said to involve music in genres such as Afro pop, Brukdown, Calypso, Dancehall, Kompa, Marimba, Reggaeton, Punta Rock, Soca, Reggae and Zouk. Sounds like an awesome mixture of sound, but the station will not be limited to island music. Caribbean sport and food shows will also air on the channel. I've been hearing a lot about the channel for a long time so I'm definitely ready to plug myself in for at least a day or two.

you noticed how tempo said they would play the music of the caribbean. well if you look at the channel you would see the the caribbean is only made up of three maybe four islands as far as tempo is concerned. they do not play any music from the french island. no zouk or compa. as a matter of fact they almost never play any soca. they say the quality is not good enough. what is up with
that?

That's what I'm interested in seeing Sandro. I've been hearing a lot of different things about the network and want to see how they are living up to representing different sounds, culture and people of the many different islands and not three of the more popular islands.

Tempo says its bringing the Caribbean? What about gospel, soca and calypso from the Bahamas they have a lot of good artist like "Spice, "Visage", Terez Hepburn, Sharlene Smith, "Sweet Emily" and "Funky D". I want to see the Bahamas too on Tempo perhaps the live Goombay Festival and Junkanoo Festivals as well.
