Well, here we
are moving into a fresh new year and we've got lots of photos to choose from over at the Gadling Flickr site. Among
them, I liked this one from Carpetblogger. The photo is over the Sheki bazaar, which
Carpetblogger calls "delightful in many regards", although not all the
women in this photo seem to agree. While he says in the caption that folks were "cackling with glee", well,
if the expressions on their faces is what passes for glee, well, I'd hate to see it when they're bummed. Filed under: Photos

Like a lot of places in the former Soviet Union, people in Azerbaijan usually will not smile for a camera. Indeed, they seem to muster the sternest, most serious, stoniest face for their portrait.
