Internet Access in Trinidad & Tobago

Planning my travels for Trinidad are in full swing now and one thing I’m really looking to get squared off
is the internet situation, period. I know it seems like such a waste to be on vacation, doing all that partying,
relaxing on the beach while sipping on some Apple J, but such is life and I’m a little attached to having internet
access at the moment. I’m not sure what the situation is like in other parts of the Caribbean, but after doing a little
research I’m told there are few free wireless hot spots in the country which include the University of the West Indies,
the Piarco International Airport and supposedly TGIF, which
may be confused with the connection over at BP (British Petroleum).

Doing a quick web search gave me
reports that there weren’t quite any WiFi spots, but could that be outdated? TSTT
doesn’t offer many answers to the connection questions I have, but they will certainly come in handy when getting
local mobile service. Tempst
Telecom
is a service offered for traveling in several countries with various options for each. They only offer
dial-up internet access in TnT.

Was considering getting an air card with my mobile carrier (T-Mobile), but that changes several other
connection factors considering the ones I use while at home. The downside to the air cards are the contracts and high
costs. Anyone out there have any experience with the use of air cards while traveling in the Caribbean? Would love to
hear your advice. I’ll continued to keep all posted if I find fast and affordable solutions to working online or just
saying ‘hi’ to your loved ones back home, while on the islands.
