Top Travel Stories and News from 2005

The end-of-year lists keep coming...The New York Times and National Geographic have both released short lists of their most popular news stories/articles of the year. This huge fella made the top of the list for National Geographic's news stories of 2005: This giant squid off the coast of Japan was the first ever to be captured in photos while in the wild. Other tops stories from National Geographic's Top Ten News Stories of 2005 include the King Tut exhibit, the bursting python and coverage of the tsunami and  Hurricane Katrina. The New York Times list focuses on the articles most enjoyed by readers. The top pick was the July piece about the "new Riviera" in Croatia. Other stories that made the top 20 cut feature
Maureen Dowd on spring break in Mexico and places like Le Marche, St. Tropez, Capri, Dubai, Molokai and Shanghai. Obviously places ending in "i" were very "in" this year... Here's the complete list of the New York Times Twenty Most Popular Travel Articles of 2005.
