Chessboxing
This is great. What a hilarious idea that mixes the intellectual rigor of one sport and the fierce physicality of another. I can only imagine the dialogue: Queens pawn takes bishop: wham! The hot new hybrid is called Chessboxing, and it is the brainchild of Iepe "the Joker" Rubingh, who says he got the idea in 2003 from a comic by Enki Bilal, a Yugoslav-born artist living in Paris. The picture alone here speaks volumes. Of course, one might be a bit puzzled since boxers are not widely known for their intellect…but then again, boxing is a very strategic sport…you have to think a few moves ahead of your opponent before you pummel him. And so it goes that you might just have to duck before saying "Checkmate".
