Paddling Croatia with Jon Bowermaster
I've been following the paddling
peregrinations of kayaker and adventurer Jon Bowermaster for a
while now. I had the good fortune of meeting him at the
Adventure Expo in New York a year ago. Cool guy. Laid back, self-assured. Smart.
His epic Oceans 8 project has taken him and his team of photographers, filmmakers, thrill-seekers to distant, watery corners of the globe, as they explore the world's oceans by sea kayak. We posted about his altiplano paddle a while back…a trip that must have furrowed brows since the altiplano is not really an ocean…not the last I checked, anyway. Still, the photos from that trip were eye-buggingly good. Now he's pulling strokes through Croatia and Nat Geo Adventure has got videos and photos (check this one out) of the trip to prove it. A series of written and audio dispatches takes you along on the trip…albeit sans your own sun, water and view.
Folks interested in more about Bowermaster might also check out his DVD called A Slow Boat to Somewhere, which I watched and reviewed not long ago. It provides an excellent glimpse of life in a part of the world that most of us desk jockeys will never know.

I've been following the footage on National Geographic, very ineresting stuff, indeed. Maybe he should visit island of Drvenik Veli (he probably passed near it), where we're trying to motivate internet community to act together and build a nature park... let's hope he stops by next time - at least online at www.tariona.com
