Road Read: Best American Travel Writing 2005
Just a reminder that the latest
Best American Travel Writing is out. The 2005 collection is edited by
Jamaica Kincaid, author of
Among Flowers: A Walk in the Himalayas, which was released earlier this year.
Some of the authors with stories in the book include: William Least-Heat Moon, Ian Frazier, John McPhee, William T.
Vollmann, Simon Winchester, Madison Smartt Bell, Timothy Bascom and Pam Houston. Several
World Hum contributors also have stories in the book.
I thoroughly enjoyed last year's edition. I find that
these Best of anthologies are perfect traveling companions. It's easy to read a few short stories each time I
take a trip. I read most of the 2004 edition while traveling via Greyhound, Amtrak and Southwest — quite appropriate
for a travel book, don't you think?
