Fly with Me

Joe D’Eon, a pilot who is currently training to earn his captain
wings, is podcasting from the cockpit! If you’re hungry to get the inside
scoop about what goes on “behind the galley curtain and the cockpit door”, then be sure to take a listen to some of his
interviews. Joe talks with passengers, pilots and flight attendants, often focusing podcasts around a particular theme,
such as “Celebrity Sightings”, “When Things Go Wrong” and “Fear”.

So who exactly is Joe and why is he doing this? Last month Small World Podcasts
interviewed him. (The audio sounded horrible to me, maybe you’ll have
better luck.) In the interview, Joe explains what equipment he uses and how he records the stories people tell. He
makes sure to note that he is never secretive about getting people to talk, and always clearly displays his microphone.
Joe will not reveal what airline he works for, but does say that he told his supervising captain about his side
job.

It’s clear by listening to his podcasts that this former Airforce pilot, who has worked for commercial airlines for
thirteen years, knows what he’s talking about. And he is getting others to talk too. He even encouraged his flight
attendant colleague to join the plane podcast bandwagon — Be sure to visit Betty in

, to get her perspective on working at 30,000 feet. Very cool stuff. Do you think Homeland
Security would agree?
