Photo of the Day: (6/21/05)
Cruising around bigeono's photostream I cam across this great picture of a biker riding across salt flats in South America. I'm actually not sure where this is, but I suspect it is somewhere near Atacama Desert in Chile. I've been there myself and it looks just like this, an expanse of vivid color. But what I liked most about this photo was the addition of the bike, whiich not only gives the photo interesting scale, but also adds a cool feature to the shot.

This is the Salar de Uyuni (Uyuni Saltflat) and it is in SW Bolivia, in the Altiplano, which is dry but not part of the Atacama. There are salt flats in Chile's Atacama Desert but they aren't as spectacular or nearly as large as the one's in the Salar de Uyuni, by far the world's most impressive in my opinion.

Great comment Pablo. So I have to correct myself, it seems. Bolivia is where this was taken. Thanks!

Hi guys,
sorry to burst bolivia's bubble :-)
(i've updated the original photo)
But it was taken in North West Argentina - Salinas Grandes - about 4000m high on the way to Chile from Purmamarca.

(BTW it's a great cycle back to Purmamarca - over 30k and all downhill!)
