Pink Floyd to Reunite at Live8
So ya thought ya might like to go to the
show?
I know I would…man, would I go to this show. In a bleedin' heartbeat. Pink
Floyd, one of the greatest bands of all-time…in my opinion the SECOND greatest band of all time AFTER the Beatles
(yes, better than the Rolling Stones and Dylan and fricken Coldplay) is going to reunite for the first time in 24 years
at Bob Geldof's Live8 concert series to benefit Africa. The concert is one of
five taking place around the world on July 2. Other performers will be Madonna (ugh), REM (cool), U2 (cool), Sir Paul
McCartney (ok, but his Superbowl concert thing was so bad), Sir Elton John (yeah, cool), Coldplay (no comment) and
Robbie Williams (whatever).
Truly it is great to see all this attention paid to Africa. It's about time. It seems like we're in about a 20 year
cycle anyway, given the last big event of this type was the
We Are the World
thing (now we know what Michael meant by "We are the children". OK, bad joke. The guy was acquitted after all).
Anyway, amazing stuff. Pink Floyd reuniting. I'm trembling it's so cool. And I would love to go, but will likely be
stuck here…stuck here to fritter and waste the hours in an off-hand way.

There are few surprises in the prospective setlist which appears in a newspaper today: Money, Wish you Were Here and Comfortably Numb. But it's great they've resolved their differences and will take the stage together for the first time since I've been listening to their music. Maybe - just maybe - they'll start working together in the studio again and we'll hear some new work from the Waters/Gilmour writing team.

all wonderful choices given the theme. And how amazing would it be for them to get back in the studio together. The old PF magic. Hopefully egos won't clash too much over the course of the concert and they can seriously think about making good music.

...and what a performance it was. Not at all surprising, considering what a talented group of people/musicians they always were.
A band of Pink Floyd's dignity may hit us once a century if we're lucky, and not surprisingly their playlist contained material well known to most of the public. After all, a lot of people attending the event wasn't even born when they disbanded, leaving us with a void which has been pretty hard to fill.
As Sean said; it was about time they settled their differences. In the context of today's event, the issues which led to their conflict seem rather petty. Let's just hope they find a way to remain friendly and use their talents to the benefit of both their fans and the cause which got them back together. They have a lot of milage left.

The performance from Pink Floyd at Hyde Park was excellent. Their playing held the magic of Floyd while the singing was mature and mellow. They made no efforts at all to hide their ages and the brief moments of interaction between them acknowledged past differences but brushed these aside with the affinity that only comes with age.
If the Beatles had survived and re-united it would have been good to think they could have done as well.
Hope we see more of Floyd

Pink Floyd performance was one for the ages. Too bad MTV cut out while they were still playing "Comfortably Numb"...

Great comments. Pink Floyd, as I've said before, is one of the best bands of the century. I knew they'd get together again at some point, that Waters and Gilmour would mend their differences. And thanks for the link. Very cool for Floyd fans everywhere.

I think its a bit too much to expect they would get back in studio but a live concert once in a while would be great. We hope they realise (especially Roger) they are adored all over the world, even more so outside their home country the UK (where a lot of the media was always a bit cold towards them). Thats ok, Britain can keep Robbie Williams, the world will take Pink Floyd...
Their music and their Lyrics are in a league of its own, and people just cant get enough of classic Pink Floyd, especially in these times dominated by Pigs...
Let's hope they can ear so many fans crying: get over your rifts for good, we are still standing and We still Wish you were here...

Thanks to all Floydians! Since July 2, 2005 my life has changed for ever... Thanks God, Thanks Bob Geldof, Thanks Roger, David, Richard and Nick... and of course Thanks SYD...
Someone hear about a future play on Lebanon?

When i heard about PF reuniting under the live8 concert, i did not believe it. Then i went and checked it on the internet and i was just..thunderstruck. I actually cried for 15 miniutes. My feelings and emotions cannot be expressed by words. I was a bit dissapointed when they just sang 4 song but they were well chosen. Now i thing all the Pink Floyd lovers and maniacs wish and dream of one thing..a one last world rocking album that will never be forgotten in the history of music. Thank you Roger Waters. I am lost for words.
